Reversi - Strategy Game

About Reversi

Reversi (also known as Othello) is a classic two-player strategy game played on an 8×8 board with double-sided discs that are black on one side and white on the other. Place your disc to outflank your opponent — any of their discs caught in a straight line between your new disc and another of your existing discs are flipped to your color. The player with the most discs of their color when the board is full (or no more moves are possible) wins. With deep strategic layers involving corner control, edge play, and mobility management, Reversi is a masterclass in tactical board gaming.

How to Play

  1. 1Place your disc on an empty square that outflanks opponent discs in at least one direction
  2. 2Outflanking means your new disc and an existing disc of yours trap a straight line of opponent discs
  3. 3All outflanked opponent discs (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) are flipped to your color
  4. 4If you cannot make a valid move, your turn is skipped
  5. 5The game ends when the board is full or neither player can move
  6. 6The player with more discs of their color on the board wins
  7. 7Multiple directions can be outflanked in a single move

Tips & Strategies

Corners are the most valuable squares — once captured, they can never be flipped

Avoid placing discs on squares adjacent to empty corners (they help your opponent take the corner)

Control edges — edge discs are harder to flip than center discs

Maintain mobility — having more available moves gives you strategic advantage

Sometimes flipping fewer discs is better than flipping many (to maintain mobility)

Think several moves ahead — Reversi board states change dramatically each turn
